Create a talent pipeline
A talent pipeline helps admins identify, track, and develop employees for future roles, leadership opportunities, or specific goals. Pipelines move candidates through defined stages, from potential to ready, while tracking their readiness statuses at every step.
Step 1: Enter pipeline details
Navigate to Apps > Talent Mobility > Talent Pipelines.
- Click Create Pipeline at the top right.
Creating a pipeline follows three steps: “Pipeline Details, Configure Stages, and Set Readiness”. - Enter the pipeline name (for example, Future Engineering Leaders).
- (Optional) Enter a description to explain the pipeline’s purpose.
- Under “What is this pipeline preparing people for?”, select one of the following pipeline types:
-
- Role: Prepares candidates for a specific job role. When selected, a “Target Role” field appears. Search for and select the role.
- Talent: Prepares candidates to succeed a specific person. When selected, a “Select Incumbent” field appears. Search for and select the incumbent employee.
- General: Prepares candidates for broad development goals or future workforce planning. No additional field is required.
5. Select the admin responsible for managing the pipeline. The field defaults to the logged-in user.
6. Click Continue.
Step 2: Configure stages
Stages track how candidates progress within a pipeline, from early potential to fully ready. You can use a pre-built template or customize your own stages.
Option A:
- Click Use this for one of the available templates.
- Click Continue.
Option B:
- Click Use this for a template.
- Do one of the following as required:
- Hover between stages and click the Plus
icon to add another stage. - Click the pipeline name or description to edit directly in the text field.
- To reorder stages, drag a stage using the Six Dot

📒Notes:
- You can edit or delete both default and customized stages.
- You cannot delete or reorder the first and last stages.
- You can modify stages at any time after the pipeline is created.
To learn more about customizing stages, refer to Configure stages in a talent pipeline.
Step 3: Set readiness
Readiness statuses show how prepared a candidate is for the target role or goal. The system pre-fills default readiness statuses:
| Readiness status | Meaning |
| Not Ready | Requires significant development before being considered |
| Ready in 12 Months | Shows potential but needs broader experience or sustained performance |
| Ready in 9 Months | On the right path with a gaps to close |
| Ready in 6 Months | Demonstrates strong potential and needs targeted development |
| Ready in 3 Months | Close to ready with minor actions needed |
| Ready Now | Can step into the role immediately |
- Do one of the following as required:
- Hover between statuses and click the Plus
icon to add another status. - Click the status name or description to edit directly in the text field.
- To reorder stages, drag a stage using the Six Dot
icon on the left. - To remove a stage, click the Delete
icon on the right.
📒Notes:
You can edit or delete statuses.
You cannot delete or reorder the first and last statuses.
You can modify readiness statuses at any time after the pipeline is created.
2. Click Save & Review.
Step 4: Review and create
The “Summary” shows a complete overview of your pipeline configuration:
- Pipeline name and total stage and readiness counts
- Pipeline owner
- All configured stages
- All configured readiness statuses
- Review the details. If changes are required, click Modify next to “Stages” or “Readiness”, or click Back to go to the previous step.
- Once everything looks correct, click Create Pipeline.
Your new pipeline appears in the “Talent Pipelines” list and is ready to use.
What is next?
