Cascade a goal

Goal cascading is the process of breaking down a high-level goal into smaller, manageable contributing goals assigned to individuals or teams. It helps align individual efforts with organizational objectives.

Cascading a goal ensures that strategic objectives are communicated clearly and effectively throughout the organization. This alignment boosts productivity and helps teams work toward common outcomes.

Goal creators, assigners, owners, admins, and managers can cascade a goal while maintaining overall goal alignment. They can cascade a goal to distribute a larger objective across multiple team members or departments, especially when collaboration is essential for achieving the desired results.

Navigate to Apps > Goals > My Goals.

  1. Click Add at the top right and select Individual Goal.
If you are an admin, select the Top Level Goal.
  2. Enter the goal title.
  3. (Optional) Click Add Description to include a relevant description.

When you create a goal, you automatically become the goal owner.

     4.  Search and select an employee from the drop-down to assign the goal to them.

     5.  Click Select Parent Goal and then click Align to align the goal to a top-level goal.

     6.  Open the drop-down and select a goal level.

📒Note: Only admins have access to the goal level selection.

     7.  Select the goal duration and set the start and end dates.

     8.  Select the measurement type to track goal progress.

📒Note: Weightages are available for percentage and quantity goals using incremental or decremental logic, providing more flexible scoring.

     9.  Open the drop-down to select the measurement logic and enter the minimum, maximum, or threshold values. Learn more in Understanding goal measurement types and progress logic.

    10.  Use the toggle to enable Auto-update progress from external apps? and select an app.

💡Tip: Ensure you are integrated with Jira, Salesforce, or Google Sheets, where goal data and status are maintained.

📒Notes:

  • If the measurement type is percentage, you can automatically update the goal progress from Jira.
  • If the measurement type is quantity, you can automatically update the goal progress from Salesforce or Google Sheets.

    11.  Set the goal visibility.

  • Everyone: Visible to everyone.
  • Custom: Select specific departments, business units, or a combination of both.

By default, managers and others higher in the hierarchy can view employees’ goals.

📒Note: If employees are permitted to manage their goal visibility during goal creation, their preferences override the admin settings for that particular goal.

    12.  Select a goal priority from the drop-down.

📒Note: Goals without a priority tag automatically appear at the bottom when sorted by priority.

    13.  Select goal categories from the drop-down to organize and filter goals (multiple selections allowed).

📒Note: The "Priority" and "Categories" options are available only if admins enable them in the settings. Learn more in Configure goals settings.

    14.  Update the reminder frequency to notify the goal owner.

    15.  Click Add to add contributors and select Key Result or Contributing Goal.

📒Note: Skip adding contributors to proceed to cascade a goal.

    16.  Click Cascade to align with top-level goals.

You are redirected to the employee list to assign the goal.

    17.  Select employees and click Next.

    18.  (Optional) Use the toggle to Enable Weightage and set the weightage.

📒Note: You can cascade a goal that has a key result or a contributing goal. However, only the parent goal is cascaded.

    19.  Click Save & Publish to create and cascade the goal.

After publishing, you are redirected to the "Goal Details" page, where you can manage a goal. Learn more in Manage a goal.
