What happens if a grading scale is not configured in the performance cycle?

If a grading scale is not configured, the final rating does not round to the nearest whole number. Instead, the decimal portion is dropped. For example, a rating of 1.9 is treated as 1, and the verbal rating associated with 1 is displayed, even though 1.9 is closer to 2.

To map ratings such as 1.9 to a more appropriate verbal rating, admins can configure a custom grading scale with ranges. For example, they can define 1–1.5 = Unsatisfactory and 1.5–2.5 = Needs Improvement instead of leaving the grading scale unconfigured.
