Admins can configure goal settings to align with the organization's requirements.
💡Tip: Admins can assign the “Manage goal settings for organization” role to any employee, allowing them to
- Manage goal visibility
- Manage goal status
- Manage goal alignment
- Set reward points for goals
Navigate to Apps > Goals.
On the left pane, click Settings at the bottom left.
General settings
Navigate to General.
The settings allow you to customize the following features for employees:
- Accessibility and visibility
- Default goal visibility: By default, an employee’s goals are visible to their reporting hierarchy (manager, secondary manager, and skip-level manager). You can modify this as follows:
Click the drop-down and select one of the following options for goal visibility:- Everyone: Goals are visible to all employees.
- Departments: Goals are visible only to the employee’s department.
- Business Units: Goals are visible only to the employee’s business unit.
- None: Goals are visible only to the reporting hierarchy.
- Default goal visibility: By default, an employee’s goals are visible to their reporting hierarchy (manager, secondary manager, and skip-level manager). You can modify this as follows:
Additionally, you can select
Allow users to change the visibility: Employees can customize the visibility of their goals, regardless of the default setting.
đź“’ Note: If employees are permitted to manage their goal visibility, their preferences override the admin settings.
Allow all employees to view the goal directory: Employees can view goals of the organization, including the top-level goals.
- Goal status
Enable goal status: Employees can manually change the goal status based on the following: Not Started, On Track, Behind, At Risk, and Achieved.
Enable automatic goal status change: Employees cannot manually change the goal status. The system automatically updates the status based on employees' progress to reduce manual effort and ensure consistency.
- Hierarchy and structure
Enable top-level goals: Allows you to create top-level goals. Additionally, you can enable department goals and business unit goals.
đź“’ Note: By default, admins can create all types of top-level goals, including department, business unit, and organization goals.
- Department admins can create individual and department goals.
- Business unit admins can create individual and business unit goals.
- Employees with the required permissions can also create top-level goals.
Enable alignment: Employees can align their individual goals with top-level goals.
Allow a combination of key results and goals under a parent goal: Employees can convert existing key results into goals. Converting a key result into a goal allows a combination of a goal and key results to align with the parent goal as a contributor or an aligned goal.
- Rewards
Reward points for goal achievements: Allows you to award points to employees after the end date of a goal.
📒 Note: You can access the reward points feature if you have an active subscription to Engagedly’s Rewards module.
You can define reward criteria and add multiple rules to it.
- Click ADD RULE, enter the goal progress as a percentage and the corresponding points, and then click the Tick
Icon.
- Hover over the rule and click the Pen
Icon to modify it or the Delete
Icon to remove it.
After making the necessary changes to the settings, click Save at the top right to apply the changes, or click Reset to discard them and revert to the previous settings.
Unit types
The goal unit types allow employees to measure goal progress in quantity and set target values to achieve it. They provide a structured way to define and track progress, ensuring clear and consistent goal tracking.
Navigate to Unit Types.
- Click Add Unit Type at the top right.
- Click the drop-down, select an icon, type the unit name, and then click Add.
When a unit type is added, its status is active by default. However, you can change the status if required.
Click the drop-down on the right side of a unit type and select Archive.
đź“’ Note: The archive unit type is not visible during goal creation.
After archiving, filter the archived types, click the drop-down next to the archived goal type, and select Active.
Goal cycles
Goal cycles define the time frame for completing a goal. They align employee goals with the organization’s timelines, such as quarterly, biannual, or yearly goals. Admins can create fixed goal cycles or allow employees to set custom dates. Goal cycles help track progress and review performance consistently.
Enable preset goal cycles: Employees can select a predefined goal cycle when creating a goal. When enabled, you can add and manage goal cycles for your organization.
Enable custom period selection: Employees can create customized goal cycles when creating goals.
Navigate to Goal Cycles.
- Click Add at the top right.
- Type the cycle name and set the start and end dates.
- Click Save.
After creating a goal cycle, you can manage it if required.
- Click Overflow
Menu on the right side of a cycle.
- Perform the following actions as required:
- Edit: Modify the cycle details.
- Delete: Remove the cycle.
- Archive: Hide the cycle.

After archiving, filter the archived cycles, click the Overflow Menu next to the archived cycle, and select Active.
Goal categories
The goal categories help to enhance the searchability and organization of goals. By categorizing goals, you can easily filter and find specific goals based on their type, making it more efficient to manage and track progress.
Enable goal categories: Employees can view goal categories during goal creation.
Navigate to Goal Categories.
- Click Add at the top right.
- Type the category name and click the Tick
Icon to save it.
After adding a category, you can manage it if required.
Hover over the category, click the Pen Icon to edit it or the Delete
Icon to remove it.
SFTP import
Integrating SFTP with Engagedly allows you to automatically import goals from your HRIS or database system into the Engagedly platform. This integration streamlines administrative workflows, improves efficiency, and reduces the need for manual data entry by ensuring accurate and timely goal data transfer across systems.
